How to Care for Your Bangles: A Complete Preservation Guide

Your Bangles Are an Investment

The handcrafted bangles from The Kangan Tales are made with traditional techniques, premium materials, and genuine artisan care. With a little attention and proper storage, your pieces can remain stunning for decades — even becoming heirlooms you pass on.

General Care Rules

  • Last on, first off: Always put your bangles on after you have applied perfume, hairspray, lotion, and makeup. Chemicals in these products can dull stones and enamel.
  • Avoid water: Remove your bangles before washing hands, bathing, swimming, or doing dishes. Water can weaken any adhesive used in setting stones and tarnish metal.
  • Remove during physical work: Take your bangles off before cooking, gardening, exercising, or any activity where they might be knocked or scratched.

Cleaning Your Bangles

For Kundan and Meenakari bangles, never submerge them in water or use ultrasonic cleaners. Instead, use a very soft, dry cloth (a microfibre lens cloth is ideal) to gently wipe the surface. For light dust, a soft-bristled brush — like a clean, unused makeup brush — can carefully get into crevices without damaging stones or enamel.

For glass bangles, you may wipe them gently with a slightly damp cloth, then immediately dry them completely before storage.

Storing Your Collection

Proper storage is just as important as cleaning. Follow these guidelines:

  • Individual pouches: Store each set in a separate soft cloth pouch to prevent bangles from scratching each other.
  • A dedicated bangle box: Our pieces come in padded boxes — keep them there when not in use. A bangle stand is also excellent for organized storage.
  • Avoid direct sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can fade the vibrant enamels in Meenakari work and dull the shine of stones.
  • Keep away from humidity: Store in a cool, dry place. A silica gel packet in your jewelry box can help control moisture.

When to Seek Professional Care

If a stone becomes loose, if enamel chips, or if a clasp becomes stiff, please do not attempt to fix it yourself. Reach out to us at The Kangan Tales and we can guide you to a trusted artisan who can restore the piece to its original glory.

The Promise of Longevity

A well-cared-for bangle set from The Kangan Tales should last a lifetime. The artisans who create our pieces would testify that with the right care, these are not just accessories — they are living pieces of art that grow more meaningful with every year.
